Privia Health and UnitedHealthcare Establish Accountable Care Relationship for Medicare Advantage Plans
New accountable care model designed to enhance care coordination and improve health outcomes for Medicare beneficiaries
ARLINGTON, VA – (November 21, 2019) – Privia Health (Privia) and UnitedHealthcare are launching an accountable care program in Virginia that will encourage better health and help deliver an enhanced patient experience for consumers enrolled in UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans, effective Jan. 1, 2020.
This new value-based model is designed to enhance the coordination of care and improve health outcomes through deeper collaboration between Privia and UnitedHealthcare.
UnitedHealthcare will provide an enhanced level of data and support to Privia physicians to enable them to provide more comprehensive care to their patients. For example, UnitedHealthcare will share data about its members’ underlying medical conditions, past treatments, gaps in care, medications prescribed and future care needs.
The data will be actionable and specific to individual patients, giving Privia physicians a more complete picture of their patients’ health status and arming them with valuable information that supports their efforts to provide high-quality care. For example, physicians will be able to more easily identify patients who are at higher risk for an adverse health outcome such as an emergency room visit or readmission to the hospital, allowing them to intervene more quickly. They can also use the data to reduce duplicative tests and help patients more effectively manage their chronic conditions and take their medications as prescribed.
Ultimately the accountable care program will help improve coordination across specialties and care settings. This in turn can lead to a better experience for UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage members and reduce the burden of having to connect information from each of their doctor’s visits themselves.
“This program bolsters our efforts to transform the health care delivery experience for patients and their families,” said Mark Foulke, Privia Health’s Executive Vice President of Transformational Value-Based Care. “The combination of UnitedHealthcare’s resources with Privia’s integrated technology platform and our experience meeting patients where they are – online, in the doctor’s office and virtually – will enable physicians and their care teams to continue improving the health of their communities.”
“Our collaboration with Privia Health through this new accountable care model will support our shared goal of improving both the quality and cost of health care,” said Tommy O’Connor, CEO, UnitedHealthcare of Virginia. “We’re always looking for ways to provide a better health care experience for the people we serve through our Medicare Advantage plans and believe this new relationship with Privia will help us do that.”
More than 17 million people enrolled in UnitedHealthcare plans have access to care providers who participate in a value-based relationship with UnitedHealthcare. UnitedHealthcare’s payments to physicians and hospitals that are tied to value-based arrangements now total $75 billion.
